The music initially seems more cheerful in comparison with these themes, but still features the general noisiness of their previous releases. However, where those albums often deployed their music in a more forceful manner, LOVE AND AFFECTION instead prefers to lace the noise into the actual instrumentation. This helps tracks like MUSIC feel uniquely sour despite a bright disposition, selling its lyrics about music's inability to fix social or personal ills. Still, the duo does take this opportunity to state how much they care for one another, and how that mutual love can form at least somewhat of a bulwark against the pressures facing them.

Leaning in on the poppier side of Black Dresses' earlier work while still retaining the harsh industrial edge; this album feels like an anthem for a generation. I've never heard Black Dresses before and I know the group is new, so maybe they have time to develop? I can appreciate the sentiments behind the songs and the meanings of the lyrics and all that bullshit but good lord I can't express the relief I felt when those 30 minutes were over. I don't hate Bloom or Drool, and the last two tracks are bearable but for Christ's sake I don't understand the appeal to this at ALL. The lyrics make me wince, the vocals are often obnoxious, the production has its moments but more often than not it's grating. The humor falls flat for me and I don't find anything about this charming, plus it's too irritating for me to take it seriously.

This whole album slaps I love it, but melty future hits different.
'MUSIC' is probably the weakest moment on the album. It's delightful in the way that it feels like a hug, but it's almost... It's the only track I don't think is perfect or near perfect.

This is the best Black Dresses album no doubt. I really hope to one day get the cassette release for this album. It's not a stretch to say Black Dresses are a controversial band. For reasons beyond me, it appears that this band brings up various feelings in people, from disdain to absolute adoration. Based on my score, I think you can see where I land.
Honestly, it’s really difficult trying to articulate specific thoughts about this record and I feel like the best way to try to communicate the music is by giving broad strokes of how this project feels as a whole. But as I listen to it again it’s possibly one of my favorites of all time. Probably the most refined effort by Ada Rook and Devi McCallion. Every song here is just incredibly expressive, nice to listen to, and even funny at times. The writing and delivery here feels so authentic and well processed. Instant download items don’t accept returns, exchanges or cancellations.
The blend of sad girl pop and industrial is actually balanced extremely well which to be honest I didn't expect in the slightest. Though at times does come off as a little bit over the top ,dipping its toes into the Cherry Bomb pool with its meme worthy bass. If that doesn't bother you though this album is really solid.
