Black Dresses were a Canadian noise pop duo consisting of Ada Rook and Devi McCallion. Their debut album, Wasteisolation, was released independently in 2018. The duo released three additional albums, Thank You , Love and Affection for Stupid Little Bitches , and Peaceful as Hell , before breaking up in 2020. Despite no longer being a band, Black Dresses have released two additional albums, Forever in Your Heart and Forget Your Own Face . Well I sure tried to like it all the way, but it always managed to get a grip on my nerves really.
Just downright fun and silly, and i love the structure. I also find the transition between BABY STEPS and THANK U to be wonderfully done. Both of the songs have similar ideas, but the tone shift to me does a wonderful job displaying a mental break's life. The whole album does a very nice job being able to sum up a feeling of angst. While WASTEISOLATION as an album was more miserable and thrashy, THANK YOU is more angsty and confrontational. One is the guts it takes to approach in the moment, and one is the guts you have from afar.

Everyone who knows me knows i am a complete sucker for hype songs. DEATH/BAD GIRL sounds like it was made to be performed and sung with a group of friends or alongside rook and devi themselves. Its one of those songs you can jump around to and be able to get so tired you lay down on the floor. Its cheesy, its fun, and its quite literally a hype song. Its one for the fans, its one for everyone to hop around in. It has the perfect mix of hype song and the black dresses spin!
Aside from that, there's quite a bit to enjoy here if you're a big fan of noise pop, especially the noisiest of noise pop. There is a lot of clipping and distortion on here, which can get overbearing at times, but there are moments where that can be enjoyed quite a lot! There're moments where the noise can fit over the track for the better, even on the choruses where the melodies are supposed to be the forefront to them. For that, I enjoy it quite a bit, and the chords and harmonies on other parts, with or without the noise, they're very enjoyable more often than not!
