When we released WASTEISOLATION we had almost no audience, didn't know what TikTok was, and didn't think we would get any attention for such a personaly album. Following its popularity, we did our best to write about less personal subject matter on subsequent albums, but WASTEISOLATION, which includes songs about both of our experiences with childhood sexual assault, remained very popular. Unfortunately, that popularity has now culminated in Devi's harrassment, so we have decided to disband. On February 14, 2021, the duo released their fifth studio album, Forever in Your Heart, announcing it 30 minutes prior to its release.
"In My Mouth" has really annoying and off-puting vocals and "Legacy" is very abrasive while having really angry lyrics which somehow annoy me instead of making me feel for the duo. Okay i'll first say that i used to neglect this group for so long with no fucking reasons until today i decided to bite the gun and listen to black dresses' first album. Needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding. The album was a viral success on the video-sharing website TikTok. The success of songs on the album led to invasion of privacy and extended harassment against McCallion by what the duo described as "entitled fans", eventually leading to the disbandment of the duo in 2020. Love and Affection for Stupid Little Bitches sees Rook mastering her growls/screams, an integral part of the follow ups to WASTEISOLATION and an element that really adds a great dimension to this music. The music often pairs static and noisy beats with bright synth and their signature vocals which range from talking to friendly banter to coughing to screaming to melodic singing; they cover the entire gamut. Dizzy and Rook pour personality all over everything they create and there is truly no other band that sounds exactly like Black Dresses out there right now. Beautifully noisy electropop industrual madness. Hertz through Cartoon Network is stellar, and maybe the best stretch of songs in a row of any of their work.
They both stare directly into the camera, intercut with clips of marine animals. At one point, Girls Rituals drinks a La Croix and smokes a cigarette and looks very cool, which seems like the ideal life. Yeah, there's Noise rattling under the surface. Yeah, Black Dresses' lyrics would ban them from any parentally-guided radio station. Yeah, the proud amateurishness is an acquired taste. And yeah, their squelching, tone-deaf vocals are futile in appreciation. But looking beyond that all, finding value in the filth, is where true bastions of art can be found.
