I share all of this advice because I want your outfits to compliment and help make the photo, not detract from it. Also, the color palette you choose will affect your appearance and the overall look of your photo. If possible, discuss the overall theme with everyone in the family prior to the photo session. Every member of the family should be on the same page when it comes to the desired color palette for the group photo. If you want to dial the holiday spirit up a notch, coordinated sweaters is a fun idea too.
Okay, let’s get to my favorite places to find outfits for mom for photos. This includes jewelry for mom and a flower crown for the daughter that coordinates with the clothes. Notice mom has a mint skirt but the jewelry I chose has more of a peachy/pink color because I want it to coordinate with daughter’s dress. There are basic color combinations that work for each season.

We will definitely have to look into some different options to see what we want. Here are the three most popular fall family picture locations and how to plan what to wear around them. This is because we are the hardest to shop for, we are the hardest on ourselves, and we care most how we look and feel in something. I love family photos in all seasons for different reasons. In every season there is something completely unique that you can capture in your photos.
Please Avoid…
Lets look at some essential color palettes for any season and any setting. If you want a maternity family photo session, you need to prepare the clothes that emphasize the bump in a flattering, delicate way. The best choice is airy dresses of pastel colors.

My images are all about connection so I want to see your arms wrapped around your little girl, not a floating baby. You probably already know this, but it’s super important not to wear any words, logos, or characters of any kind on your clothing. Even that tiny Nike or Carhartt logo in the top corner of your t-shirt is going to draw the eye there rather than the subject of the photo… your family! That’s the entire point of your photo session so let’s keep the attention on you. Don’t wear a pattern that’s too big, it overwhelms the subject.
A session at a farm while dressed in cowboy boots and cute sundresses would look perfect in a rustic home. But the same image would feel out of place in a contemporary home. This is also where you can add your pops of color.

The charm of family portraits is rooted in colors bouncing off each person with harmony. Have your booked a family photo session but the question of what to put on drives you crazy? Frankly speaking, choosing appropriate clothes may be a real challenge and if your family is big, you can face even more difficulties. Last but not least, we have this gorgeous family decked out in color-coordinated outfits of olive green, brown, and neutral tones. For little girls, white dresses are the articles of choice for this look.
The holiday season is all about the flannels, the furry scarves, and the cable-knit sweaters. For the longest time, I also didn’t feel comfortable wearing dresses . I don’t have to look skinny or be skinny to be pretty, and finding a dress that is flattering and I feel comfortable in is now enough for me.
